Matthew Brvenik started playing the double bass at the age of thirteen. Since then, he had determined to make music his career. His primary teachers at the beginning were Michael Asetta, Ryan Ford, and Scott Chaurette. After attending Peabody Conservatory, as well as studying with Jeffrey Weisner for the past four years, he has largely learned to chill out when he practices, as well as to breathe regularly. He remains grateful to Mr. Weisner for all he has done, and hopes to impart these insights and more if he is given the opportunity to teach.
Mr. Brvenik has studied with other members of the double bass community, including but not limited to Ira Gold, Ali Yazdanfar, Bret Simner, Leonid Finkelshteyn, Marc Facci, Harold Robinson, and Jeff Bradetich. In the course of his study, he has attended the Eastern Music Festival and the New York Summer Music Festival. He has always enjoyed the music of The Doors, the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin.
Violist Santiago E. Osorio began his musical studies at the age of three in London with the violin. In 1998 his family emigrated to the United States where he became a student of Desiree Ruhstrat in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Osorio continued to study with Ms. Ruhstrat when he entered the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago, where he received instruction in chamber music from David Cunliffe. In 2007 Mr. Osorio left the violin completely so as to concentrate on the viola, which he had begun playing the previous year. Mr. Osorio has attended such summer programs as the Heifetz International Music Institute and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where he took classes from renowned violist Yuri Bashmet. In competitions, Mr. Osorio has taken second prize in the Music Festival in Honour of Confucius, first scholarship prize in the Highland Park Music Club competition, and third prize at the Generation Next Composition Contest in 2006. In master classes, he has performed for such musicians as Ani Kavafian, Helen Callus, Roberto Diaz, Kim Kashkashian, Atar Arad, and Roger Chase, and participated in the New York String Orchestra Seminar under the direction of Jaime Laredo. An avid lover of all music, Mr. Osorio enjoys playing in chamber and orchestral ensembles, and his compositions include four string quartets, a piano quartet and quintet, three orchestral overtures, and a suite for string orchestra. He was recently awarded scholarships to study viola with Stephen Wryczynski at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
Chih-Le Chang, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, began studying the violin at the age of five. Mr. Chang's primary teachers include Mr. Che-Nan Tseng and Mr. Keng-Yuen Tseng.
Mr. Chang has participated in and won numerous prizes at various competitions, including the Kaohsiung County Music Competition and the National Music Competition in Taiwan. At the age of fifteen, he was offered by the Canberra School of Music in Australia to attend their conservatory. Mr. Chang served as the concertmaster and "Seat of Honor" in the Kaohsiung Youth Symphony Orchestra, Lavender String Orchestra, and the Shin Yi Primary School Orchestra. During his musical journey, Mr. Chang has had the privilege of performing in master classes for world renowned violinists Dmitri Berlinsky and David Lukas. He was also sponsored by Public TV to play in a master class for Mr. Keng-Yuen Tseng. In addition to his solo studies, Mr. Chang has also participated in numerous chamber music competitions. His string quartet has won prizes in competitions such as the National Music Competition. In addition to his music studies, Mr. Chang also enjoys painting. His artwork has won prizes in pan-Asia competitions. Mr. Chang, an undergraduate senior, currently studies with Mr. Keng-Yuen Tseng at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where he is continuing his studies for his Bachelor's of Music degree.
