Your child’s baptism is a most special day, and we at the Basilica are so pleased that you are considering having your child baptized in America’s First Cathedral!
We ask that you first read the informational section below, which answers some of our most common questions. Then, please fill out and submit the following contact form.Some Frequently Asked Questions about Baptisms at the Basilica:
Q. How old can the child be?
A. Infant to five years of age. If the child is older than five years, and you are not a registered member of the Basilica parish, we require you to go to your local parish and register your child in an initiation program for your child.
Q. Who can be a godparent?
A. There needs to be at least one godparent who is a practicing Catholic. One must be male and one female. If one is not Catholic , they may serve as a witness to the baptism along with the Catholic godparent.
Q. When can I register for the preparation class?
A. After we receive your baptism request form, we will contact you and give you the class dates and time. Both parents and godparents MUST attend the class. You will receive a confirmation letter from the Basilica with the date and time of the class you will attend.
Q. After I attend the class and fill out the required paperwork, what happens then?
A. You will be contacted to confirm the date of the baptism, then we will send you a letter of confirmation with information needed for the day and time of the baptism ceremony.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. The Basilica asks for a suggested donation. During the classes, you will be given more information.
